Yo que soy contrabandista from “El calculista”
Aviva Amir is a descendent of Spanish - Jewish exiles who wandered centuries ago from Spain to Algeria, Egypt and finally settled in Israel in the ancient towns of Safed and Tiberias. Aviva's mother (1925 - ) was a genuine singer of traditional Arabic music, and it seems that Maya has inherited her grandmother's beautiful gracefully touching and warm voice. Amir’s pieces of music create fascinating and sensitive connections between texts, rhythms and melodies as the influences of classical Arabic music, piyyut and Ladino songs reverberate her roots and childhood.
Maya Amir, who specializes in Baroque music, displays in her performances diverse vocal abilities and interpretations. Maya - rooted in the landscapes of her native town by the Sea of Galilee, then highly musically educated in Europe - celebrates her passion for music by embracing the soul of her varied musical life.
